It seems that I have been drawing all my life. The rural community was my subject matter--I grew up in Ewing, Missouri, a small town of about 340 people, and also spent a lot of time on my grandparents' farm in Steffenville. My interest in art came from my dad. He was always drawing horses for me. I decided to try painting about 15 years ago, but then remarried and gained four children (I had two of my own), so painting had to be put aside to raise my family. Then in 2000, I decided to try again and have been at it ever since. I have never had any formal art training, s it has been trial and error, and I read a lot of art books and magazines. My favorite medium is acrylic. I paint from photographs and my painting style is mainly realistic. I like some looser styles of painting, but my brain doesn't work that way yet....but I am working on it! Kimberly Shinn
