Jerry Cox

Jerry received a BFA from Westminster/William Woods in Fulton, MO in 1978, with concentrations in sculpture, watercolor and drawing. While attending there, Jerry became interested in photography and won the Columns Bluejay Annual Photography Competition award in 1976.

Immediately after graduation, he found himself working with a local Jerry Coxcollector of slot machines and jukeboxes. There he carved wood parts, re-cast lost and broken aluminum parts, and refinished wood work. In 1981 he found a job in cabinetmaking and antique restoration i which he discovered an area within the furniture making realm called, "Furniture as art." This is defined as furniture more as a functional sculpture, built to the best quality standards. To this day, in his main profession, he has been pursuing the craft of furniture as art. Jerry enjoys wood construction sculptures and has used the techniques of fine furniture making to refine his skills.

Through the 80s and early into the 90s, Jerry enjoyed creating landscape watercolors. Starting in the mid 80s with the purchase of a medium format Pentax 67 camera, his interest grew in photography. Today Jerry enjoys capturing portraits of people in costume. The people reveal themselves through the masks they wear.

Through the years he has been mixing sculpture, painting, photography and furniture making. As with my watercolors, I am always searching for the richest possible color.
