Grand Natural Products - metal sculpture trees by Wayne Trinklein

Grand Natural Products is the culmination of 32 years of artistic sculptural development in the hands and heart of Wayne Trinklein. Beginning initially as background scenery in copper wall hangings, the trees captured the artist’s passion. In these realistically depicted species of trees, Trinklein sees a model of people and human experience. “Trees have personalities, roles, and relationships to each other, and to us. “

In his studio, he sculpts each tree with wire, flame, and metal to relate each tree to the rocky environment he has chosen. The tree is anchored firmly in the stone with a tap root for security, and buttressing roots seek support and nourishment in the crevasses. The trunk and limbs portray the unique character imparted by time and adversity. Split trunks and twisted limbs become sanctuaries for other creatures. The new twigs seek the sun in an unending need for life and renewal.

Like people, trees have many personalities and abilities. The strong, trustworthy, nurturing structure of the mature Red Oak contrasts strikingly with the wispy brilliance, movement, and energy of the Birches. The immutable, aristocratic pride of the towering Spruce compares stridently with the tortured struggle of the twisted Cypress.
