Gardening has always been one of my hobbies. I started gardening at the age of ten, pulling weeds for my mom. I still love weeding to this day! I've always had flower gardens where I've lived. Roses at my first home and wildflowers at my current home. I planted wildflower seeds in 1992 and loved how the Cosmos wildflower had amazing, easy-to-pick seed heads that were very visible after the flowers were finished blooming. I decided to start picking and storing the seeds every year and then plant them each spring to increase the amount of colorful flowers in my backyard. By the summer of 1995, I had accomplished my goal of having the Cosmos flowers everywhere! The yellow and orange flowers blooming against our stained wooden fences made a very striking picture! For the next three years, I was still growing and picking the seeds because I just couldn't see them all falling to the ground and being wasted. In January 1998, I opened a home-based secretarial business. One day, I suddenly realized just how many Cosmos seeds I had picked and was storing. I had no more room to plant any more flowers in my backyard, so I started thinking, "How could I incorporate all these Cosmos flower seeds into my secretarial business?" I remembered that "Thank You" cards are very important for business people to send to their clients, so I decided I would somehow create handmade Thank You cards that would include my wildflower seeds, giving the person a "card and gift all-in-one" and all my collected seeds wouldn't be going to waste! So my investigation began in how to incorporate my seeds into handmade cards. And a few months later, Backyard Beauties and All-Occasion Seed Cards were born! It's been nonstop ever since! I'm either planting seeds, weeding my gardens, watering, photographing my flowers, picking and storing seeds, making my Flower Seed Note Cards, creating customized Flower Seed Packets or growing, cutting, drying and packaging my Spearmint. I currently offer 38 card designs and 86 flower seed varieties. Each year I grow approximately 200 different kinds of flowers and use the varieties for my cards and seed packets that are easy-to-grow, bloom all summer and fall and are very easy to care for. Two years ago, I turned my backyard into a botanical garden, including water gardens, as I needed more planting space! It's great to have an "outside" office! Backyard Beauties
