Edwina Prinster - Fiber Artist

Edwina Prinster - Fiber ArtistI am Edwina Prinster, and I am a certified original hookrug teacher. Instructional classes are held in my country home in Auxvasse, Missouri.

I have been hooking rugs for over fifteen years, and over the course of that time have realized that art is the product of self-discovery. People are shaped by the extension of themselves in a chosen art form. Erick Booth once said, "Artists are in the yearning business. We all have the birthright to yearn to create."

Edwina Prinster - Fiber ArtistHooking with overdyed wool is called "painting with wool." The dyed stripes of wool are hooked into your work just as one would brush paints onto a canvass. It is still amazing to me how wool can be dyed and manipulated like paints to produce such a work of art.

The discovery comes from within yourself when you select a subject you love and the colors that bring that subject to life. You start with your chosen subject, a hook, your many colors of wool and begin the miracle of producing your art.

The art of rug hooking is an opportunity to work within a group. For me sharing and learning together is the most exciting part of life: in a bible study, a quilting group or hooking group, its all about sharing life and art.
